Allen Plass returns to EY Global Compliance and Reporting practice as an as an Executive Director in the Irvine, CA office. Plass spent most of his 30 years of experience with EY focused on accounting for income taxes, tax planning for business transactions and taxation of multinational organizations. He joined Kieckhafer Schiffer & Company LLP as a Partner in 2012 before returning to EY.
Varun Vig comes to EY from Deloitte Tax LLP where he spent 12 years. Varun joins as an Executive Director in the Financial Services Office specializing in Asset Management and Private Client Services. Varun is based in New York City with a focus on ultra-high net-worth individual, private equity fund and hedge fund space. Varun has a BA (Honors) in Economics from University of Delhi, MA in Economics from University of Kumaon and MS in Accounting from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Varun is a member of the AICPA, Illinois and New York Society of CPAs.
Neelu Mehrotra rejoins EY as an Executive Director in National Tax focused on Quantitative Services in the International Tax practice. Relocating to the Providence, RI office, Mehotra had been a Senior Manager and Tax Account Leader at EY in Boston before joining Kahn Litwin Renza in 2012, where she was a Principal, Director of International Tax and led its regional practice on US international tax issues.
Daniel Robert Mullins joins EY in Washington, DC, as an Executive Director in the Quantitative Economics and Statistics (QUEST) practice in National Tax. Mullins comes to EY from American University where he was a tenured Associate Professor and the Director of the Center for Public Finance Research since 2008. Previously he was an assistant professor at Indiana University. Mullins also conducts in-country advising for the World Bank, most recently for the Republics of Serbia and Croatia.
The Singapore headquartered accounting firm, Nexis TS, has hired Edwin Leow as Tax Director.
Edwin joins from PwC Singapore, where he has worked for almost 14 years, specialising in corporate tax. He trained with Arthur Andersen and had a brief spell working in-house with Schneider Electric as Regional Tax & Treasury Manager.
Nexia TS was founded in 1993 by two experienced chartered accountants – Henry Tan and Sitoh Yih Pin. It is a member of the Nexia International, a global network of independent accounting firms with over 600 offices. and it operates in Singapore and China. Smith & Williamson in the UK (also part of Nexia international) has acquired a significant interest in Nexia TS.
Samuel Kinslow has joined EY’s National Tax Department as an Executive Director for Indirect Tax Services.
He is located in the Houston office, taking the role of property tax leader for the Southwest region. He joins EY from Grant Thornton where he has worked since 2011. He began his career as a real estate appraiser, and was a real estate tax manager for Walmart Stores from 2002 – 2006 before joining tax advisory firms, gaining property tax experience.
Equiom has announced the appointment of Kevin Renshaw as Tax Director. He joined in April. This news follows the appointment of John Nugent in October 2013.
Previously a board member at IOMA Group, Kevin joins the recently established Equiom Solutions direct tax team. The team provides tax and estate planning services to Isle of Man residents and offers added value for Equiom’s fiduciary services. He brings over 15 years’ experience advising high net worth individuals and companies on all aspects of Isle of Man taxation.
He specialises in the establishment and maintenance of international tax structures and has extensive experience in property structures, non domiciliary planning, tax efficient investment into UK assets and treaty planning.

Hai Tang has joined WTAS as a Director in the Alternative Investment Funds Practice in the San Francisco office. Prior to joining WTAS, Hai was a Tax Director at PwC, where he has worked for the past 10 years.
Hai has more than 10 years of experience in professional tax and accounting services. His practice area focuses on partnership, international and M&A tax for venture capital and private equity clients. He also has extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of partnership, corporate and international tax, encompassing compliance, consulting and provision.

Robert Verona joined Volvo Cars in January as Tax Director for North America.
Mr Verona in a seasoned industry tax guy who spent 8 years with Verizon, 9 years with Sumitomo Corp and the last 8 years with GE Capital. His most recent role with GE was as Senior Tax Controller within the Treasury Tax team.
His new responsibilities at Volvo include:
• Completion and monitoring of all tax filing requirements, including federal, state/local income tax, sales and use taxes, property taxes, miscellaneous taxes and other filing requirements (e.g., annual reports, business licenses, fuel and environmental taxes, etc.)
• Support and monitor all tax compliance and audit requirements
• Conduct transactional consulting and interface with business unit personnel for the purpose of providing tax efficient advice for ongoing activities
• Identify, develop and implement tax planning initiatives
• Participate in and/or lead projects or initiatives involving tax issues
• Completion of quarterly tax provision and related financial statement reporting to the Volvo Car Group
• Maintain finanical controls of the tax function consistent with Sarbanes Oxley requirements
• Support the annual transfer pricing analysis and advise on matters impacting our profit split and permanent establishment exposure
Exelis Mission Systems has hired Mike Abramovitz as Director of Tax, based in Colorado Springs.
Mike is a highly experienced tax professional who has operated at senior levels in industry and practice. He worked for Arthur Andersen early in his career before joining TeleTech Holdings, where he became Exec Director of Tax. From 2005 to 2010 he was Tax Partner as RSM McGladrey and most recently has been Managing Partner, Colorado for TaxOps LLC.

Michael Tobin, formerly vice president – tax for Vertis Communications, has joined Lee Enterprises, Incorporated (NYSE: LEE), as director of tax.
Carl Schmidt, Lee vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer, said Tobin will lead all aspects of tax planning and compliance spanning the company’s local media operations in 22 states.
“Mike brings an impressive record of leadership and achievement in managing the continually growing complexities of federal, state and local tax requirements, and we’re delighted to gain his extensive expertise.” Schmidt said.
Before joining Vertis Communications in Maryland in 2007, Tobin was tax director at Banta Corporation in Wisconsin. Both are international commercial print and supply companies. He joined Banta in 1994 after 11 years as a senior tax officer at General Dynamics Corporation in St. Louis. His career includes accountant positions in St. Louis, Kansas City and Ireland. He is a graduate of the University of Kansas.
