Buccleuch has announced the appointment of Jon Alexander as its new Finance Director.

Mr Alexander, 42, was previously Group Tax and Treasury Manager at Buccleuch, having been with the company since 2004.

Jon’s appointment as Finance Director places him in charge of the finance teams working across Buccleuch’s head office and its estates, with business activities spanning tourism, energy, rural property and agricultural enterprises.

His new role will see him working closely with the Buccleuch board and other senior management. An alumnus of the University of St Andrews, Jon started his career within the corporate tax department of Arthur Andersen before establishing an in house tax department with international ship management company, V-Ships. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2000 and as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2002.

Jon said: “Buccleuch is a diverse and progressive business and it is a pleasure to be given the opportunity to play an even greater role in its continuing development.

“The last decade has seen many aspects of the Buccleuch business change, and there is a long-term approach to investment in sectors such as energy and hospitality, using Buccleuch’s existing resources to build growth and generate economic activity in regions where our estates are based.

“It is certain that Buccleuch will continue to look for new and diverse opportunities to enhance the business and I’m looking forward to being involved in that process.”

John Glen, chief executive of Buccleuch, said: “Jon has been a great asset to Buccleuch since he joined the company in 2004 and he was the natural choice for this role given his expertise and knowledge of the business.

“Jon will continue to play an important role in the development of Buccleuch in the coming years and we look forward to continuing to work with him.”
