Amanda Brown to lead tax litigation at KPMG and Robert Hartley joins from DLA Piper

KPMG in the UK has boosted its tax litigation practice with two key hires and a new leadership structure.

Amanda Brown, indirect tax partner at KPMG in the UK, will head up the tax litigation practice, supported by three tax leads covering indirect tax, large corporates tax and private client/owner managed business tax.

Boaz Goren (pictured left), formerly a senior manager at PwC Legal, joins KPMG in the UK, to take on the role of private client/owner managed business lead, reporting to Amanda Brown. Boaz has a broad range of tax litigation experience but in the last six years he has focused on acting for private clients and entrepreneurs.

Robert Hartley (pictured right), formerly at DLA Piper, joins KPMG in the UK and takes the tax lead for corporate taxes in KPMG’s large corporates and Financial Services sectors.  He too will report to Amanda.  Robert has a broad range of experience acting across all taxes with a strong record of working with FTSE 350 companies.

Hilary Waters, who was promoted to director at KPMG in the UK in 2011, will take the lead in relation to indirect tax, picking up some of Amanda’s historic case load.

Amanda Brown, head of tax litigation at KPMG in the UK, said: “Tax litigation is an area where we have been steadily growing our presence in the market.  In the current environment where the public and HMRC require the clarity of judicial decision to resolve complex tax disputes, a market leading tax litigation business supports clients to ensure the effective determination of dispute.  Working alongside our tax colleagues, clients can be certain that they have the right mix of industry experience, tax and litigation skills to give them the best opportunity to manage disputes through to their conclusion by litigation or otherwise.”

Boaz Goren, private client lead in the tax litigation team at KPMG in the UK, said: “I am very excited to be joining this fast-growing team at KPMG and I very much look forward to working with Amanda and the rest of my new colleagues in this area.”

Robert Hartley, director and large corporate lead in the tax litigation team at KPMG in the UK, said: “I believe now is the perfect time to be joining KPMG.  As the market for tax litigation enters a new phase, the opportunity for growth of tax litigation, particularly within the accountancy firms, is significant.  I am excited to be at the heart of this development”.
