Neil Oliver resigns from EY to join Throgmorton as Tax Director

 In Ernst Young, EY, Throgmorton

Throgmorton, one of the UK’s largest specialist accountancy and back office service providers, has announced a major hire in Neil Oliver, formerly a senior director with Ernst & Young and a tax consultant with over 20 years’ experience advising the investment management sector. The appointment reaffirms the company’s ambitions and continued expansion.

Immediately prior to joining Throgmorton, Neil, a Chartered Tax Advisor and Fellow of the Association of the Chartered Certified Accountants, spent 24 years with Ernst & Young where he gained extensive experience in the fund management and wider financial services industries and has advised at the highest level on audit, tax and regulatory matters.  From August 2009 to October 2011 Neil headed up Ernst & Young’s Jersey office and is a former Chairman of the Alternative Investment Management Association’s (AIMA) tax committee.

Neil, who has been appointed Tax Director, will be working with senior management at Throgmorton to enhance the company’s outsourced Tax and CFO services and support the dedicated multi-disciplinary client teams in implementing tax best practices. This will allow Throgmorton to provide a greater breadth and depth of service for both new and existing clients.

Neil will facilitate Throgmorton’s efforts to expand its client base in the hedge fund, private equity and wider financial service markets, having worked extensively within this industry.

Throgmorton has taken significant steps in strengthening its team from its foundations. Among the recent recruits there are several senior hires in the accounting, VAT, HR & Payroll functions and new hires at the junior level across all disciplines. Throgmorton now has a total of 63 employees working with 230 corporate groups across three offices in London, New York and Reading.

Andrew Rubio, CEO at Throgmorton, said:

“Neil brings with him invaluable experience at the highest level and we see his joining as a natural development for Throgmorton. His ambitions are aligned with ours as we expand the resources available to our clients and provide a comprehensive outsourced tax service for the alternative investment management community. His wealth of experience will be an asset to Throgmorton and clients alike.”

“The growth Throgmorton has experienced in the past twelve months is a reflection of a trend in the fund management industry as a whole. Trading desks at major investment banks have continued to spin-out and set up their own investment management businesses with increasing regularity. These companies are turning to outsourcers to help them establish, operate and control their back and middle office functions with the purpose of managing operational costs and cutting time-to-market.”

Neil Oliver, Tax Director at Throgmorton, added:
“The outsourcing industry has been growing exponentially over the past five years with more institutional investors demanding third party service providers and the need to cut costs greater than ever. I have been impressed with the way Throgmorton has approached this niche and hope I can aid them in their ambition for expansion in both its services and client base.”

Throgmorton provides business, financial and administrative outsourcing and offers clients accountancy, tax, company secretarial, payroll and human resources services. Throgmorton has extensive experience with helping US fund managers establish operations in the UK.
