Discovery Communications today announced the appointment of media-industry tax management veteran Todd Davis as Executive Vice President, Global Tax, effective September 1, 2012, and reporting to CFO Andrew Warren.

As a senior member of Discovery’s Finance team, Davis will have global responsibility for the company’s tax department, providing leadership and proactive direction for global tax strategy, planning and compliance on a worldwide basis and in all jurisdictions, including the review of tax implications of new transactions and business ventures.

“Todd’s business intelligence and leadership abilities will be invaluable as we continue to grow Discovery’s business, both domestically and internationally,” said Warren. “Also, having worked with Todd at NBC Universal, I know firsthand that his deep understanding and experience in overseeing and managing the intricacies of global tax issues, specifically as they relate to companies in the media and telecommunications industry, make him the ideal candidate to lead Discovery’s tax function.”

Davis joins Discovery from Ernst & Young, LLP, where he co-led the global tax account for General Electric and GE Capital, as well as serving on the Media and Entertainment Industry team. Prior to that, Davis spent 10 years at NBC Universal, most recently as Executive Vice President, Senior Tax Counsel, where he was responsible for global tax department management, tax planning and tax reporting, including tax-related support of the NBC-Universal merger and Comcast’s acquisition of NBC Universal. Davis’ experience also includes more than 10 years at Arthur Andersen, LLP, including serving as a member of the Technology, Media and Communications Industry team.

Davis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Stern School of Business at New York University and a law degree from the Fordham University School of Law. He is an Attorney at Law and Certified Public Accountant in New York.

Davis will be based in Discovery’s New York City office.

True Partners Consulting has announced that Aileen Arsenault has joined its New York office as a managing director. Bringing over 20 years of experience in both corporate and public accounting to the role, Arsenault will lead the firm’s Northeast Region International Tax Practice.

Arsenault intends to focus on three key initiatives; international tax planning, tax provision reporting and compliance, and Section 199 Domestic Production Activities Deductions. International tax planning and analysis services include repatriation planning, E&P Studies, FTC Planning, 861-8 optimization, and OFL Analysis. Provision reporting and compliance services include quarterly provision calculations, FIN48 analysis, international tax compliance, and audit and controversy support.

Arsenault has deep experience with the Section 199 Domestic Production Activity Deductions and plans to expand the firm’s ability to serve its clients using technology based tools to help clients comply, optimize, and support their 199 results.

Paul J. Laughlin recently joined WTAS as a Managing Director in the Private Client Services Practice of the Chicago office. Prior to joining WTAS, Laughlin was a Partner at Deloitte Tax LLP for 10 years and before that he spent 24 years at Arthur Andersen, 10 years as a Partner.

Laughlin’s primary career focus has been advising ultra high net worth families in all facets of their wealth planning, including: estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax strategies; income tax planning; charitable giving; private foundations; investments; family office consultation; and closely-held company structuring and succession planning.

Leading South West chartered accountants Francis Clark have further boosted their Cornish operation with the appointment of Erin Davis to the posiiton of Tax Director.

Erin joins Francis Clark after seven years with international firm BDO where she was senior tax manager in the Southampton office. Before that she trained with and worked for Deloitte UK for four years.

Erin is a corporate specialist whose expertise ranges from mergers, acquisitions and disposals to shareholder planning, company tax issues, property tax and detailed capital allowance claims.

Speaking about her new appintment Erin said: “I was looking for a new opportunity and jumped at the chance to work with a nationally recognised firm in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. I’m looking forward to helping Cornish businesses with all their tax needs.”

Erin will work closely with Francis Clark’s corporate team in Truro.

A member of the Federal Bar Association, the State Bar of California and the District of Columbia Bar, Ahlers also has a wealth of experience representing clients in front of the IRS, both with obtaining private-letter rulings and on IRS exam. Ahlers specializes in tax code sections 108, 162, 165, 195, 263, 355, 368, 382 and 1502.
