Appleby has announced that, with effect from 1 April 2011, Carlos de Serpa Pimentel, a leading trust practitioner in their Cayman Islands office, will assume responsibility as Global Practice Group Head for the Private Client and Trusts Practice Group.

Carlos, who has led this practice in the Cayman Islands office, is taking over the global responsibility previously undertaken by Tim Faries, who will continue to lead Appleby’s Insurance practice.

In addition to being consistently ranked highly in a number of leading legal directories, in Chambers Global 2010 clients described Carlos as “conscientious and talented” and “a sensible and practical lawyer, respected for his technical knowledge and attention to detail”. Carlos specialises in all aspects of Cayman Islands trust law and trust litigation matters for both the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands. He regularly advises trustees and ultra high net worth individuals on the establishment, restructuring and administration of trusts, and the use of private trust companies as well as providing advice to protectors, enforcers and beneficiaries on a variety of trust related matters.

Carlos is Chairman of STEP Cayman Islands as well as a panel member of experts judging the prestigious annual STEP Private Client Awards. He regularly speaks at trust conferences and is an active contributor to trust law journals and the wider press on all aspects of trust law.
