[private]Thomas Lanning, CPA, has joined J.H. Cohn LLP, one of the 15 largest accounting and consulting firms in the United States, as a tax partner in the Firm’s Not-For-Profit Industry Practice. He will be based in the Firm’s Manhattan office, located at 1212 Avenue of the Americas.
Lanning, 54, joins J.H. Cohn from one of the country’s largest tax-only financial services firms where, as managing director, he was charged with creating that firm’s Northeast Tax Exempt Practice and worked with the firm’s various leadership teams to develop national name recognition, and best practice reputation. Previously, he was tax partner-in-charge of the Northeast Exempt Tax Practice at a Big Four accounting firm. In that role, he worked with colleges, universities, medical schools, hospitals, public charities, private foundation pensions, and Voluntary Employees’ Beneficiary Associations (VEBAs).

J.H. Cohn’s Not-For-Profit Industry Practice, with more than 75 professionals, provides audit, tax, and advisory services, including corporate governance, operational reviews, computer system audits, specialized tax services, and government accounting services, to social service and charitable agencies, professional associations, foundations, and religious organizations.
Lanning, who received a Master degree in business administration from Pace University and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Wagner College, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a former member of the New York Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSCPA) and its Tax Exempt Division’s Tax Committee. He also serves as on the board of directors at the not-for-profit organization, Prevention of Teenage Suicide.[/private]
