EY Manchester announces 4 senior tax appointments

 In Ernst Young, Tax Appointments

Four senior appointments have further strengthened the award-winning Manchester Tax team of global business advisers Ernst & Young.

Mark Caine, Robert Peers and Toby O’Reilly all take on new roles as directors, while Andrew Tipping has joined the firm as a senior tax manager.

The appointments will enable the Manchester tax team to build on its nationally recognised expertise after winning the ‘Best Big 4 Tax Team’ category at the national LexisNexis Taxation Awards in May.

Mark Caine, who has been promoted to director after nine years at Ernst & Young, takes on a remit to work with multinational companies with UK operations. This will involve a range of activity from providing tax advice on initial cross-border set-ups, to working on large and complex international structuring, acquisitions and disposals.

Mark, aged 32, from Manchester, qualified as a chartered accountant in 1998 and spent a year on secondment to New York in 2004/5. He was runner up in North West Business Insider’s Insider Young Accountant of Year 2007.

A former senior civil servant, Robert Peers was recruited from HM Revenue & Customs, where he was a client relationship manager in the Large Business Service (LBS), responsible for four household-name commercial groups. In his new role, he will advise large businesses, as well as Ernst & Young on HMRC-related issues. Additionally, Robert will work with clients on tax implications of intellectual property and international tax planning. Previously, he worked at international accountancy firms Deloitte and Andersen.

Aged 33, Robert qualified as a chartered accountant in 1996 after gaining a first class degree in history at Durham University. He lives in Leyland, Lancashire.

Toby O’Reilly (35) joins Ernst & Young as an indirect tax director with a focus on the retail sector, advising local and UK companies. He spent four years of his career in Prague with PWC, advising large multinational clients on the tax implications of the Czech Republic’s EU accession in 2004, before heading to Manchester.

Born in the West Midlands, Toby initially trained and qualified as a corporate lawyer specialising in tax. He now lives in Sale Manchester, with two young children.

Senior tax manager Andrew Tipping will advise businesses in the mid-market and dynamic growth sector, as well as private equity firms and high net worth individuals. Aged 40, Andrew joined Ernst & Young from advisory firm Jackson Stephen where he was a tax partner for three years. Among recent corporate deals he has worked on was a £35m buy-out of a privately owned financial services company. Previously, he spent nine years at Andersen and Deloitte.

Born and raised in Preston, Andrew qualified as a chartered accountant in 1996 and is a board member of Young Enterprise North West. He has made several TV appearances on the quiz show Fifteen to One.
